Summary and Response Reflection

I would consider my piece to be a literary non-fiction piece because it contains facts and story elements such as setting, characters, and plot. In my writing, I presented facts from Freud’s “First Lecture” and the narrator’s story in “The Yellow Wallpaper”. Getting a better understanding of the readings and connections between them prompted me to write about this subject. Personally, writing down what I understood helped me comprehend the concepts better. I hoped to connect the “First Lecture” and “The Yellow Wallpaper” while gaining a better insight into the readings as well as get my point across about Freud’s critics of other doctors. My potential audience is Professor Von Uhl, Professor Yankwitt, and my classmates. The professors are the ones grading the assignment, but through peer review, my classmates were my audience. Both my audience and I could use this piece of writing to get a different perspective of the readings. Through peer review, I learned new information about the story and concepts I had not thought of myself. We shared the information provided by the readings and lectures, but not the same point of view. Through peer review and class discussions, I learned that most of us interpret the same information in the readings differently, which provides us with a different opinion and understanding. Since this piece of writing is a school assignment, as a writer, one can assume that this particular audience knows the information used, but we fail to understand that the audience might not interpret it the same way. It is foremost to be clear and explain when necessary because the information is not always received the same.
